Downton Abbey favourite Joanna Froggatt is about to return to our screens with new drama Liar, and the actress had a few things to say about her upcoming role along with the prospect of a Downton film.
Froggatt said at the Television Critic Association press tour (via Deadline): “I like to play flawed people. We’re all flawed to a greater or lesser degree and I always want to do things that are different from the things I’ve done. I loved Anna Bates, she was a lovely character to play for six years.”
“[The show] is playing with the idea of the lie and the audience’s perception of that,” added co-creator Harry Williams said of Liar. “They’re often wrong-footed and we’re not sure where we stand between these two characters. That’s the end game we had in mind when coming up with this show.”
But what of the announced movie version of Downton Abbey, which would follow-up on the characters after the end of the ITV series in 2015?
Reports of the project have been all over the place, with the most recent rumour suggesting it could be a prequel and previous reports stating it would begin filming at the end of this year.
Froggatt told Variety: “Selfishly, it would be great to get together for ten weeks and have a little reunion. But in all honesty, I have no idea. I absolutely have no idea. There’s been talk, there’s been conversations, but nothing has happened. We’re sort of leaving it up to the gods. We have no information.
“I think we’d all like to do it. For me, the show finished in a great place and a great time. We finished on a high. Everything must come to an end, all good things must come to an end. I was very happy with where we left it.”
