Just after Revolution of the Daleks the BBC revealed a new secret: John Bishop joins Doctor Who
If you didn’t switch off after the end of tonights Doctor Who, you’ll have seen a short trailer and a big reveal: John Bishop joins Doctor Who. Bishop had this to say:
“If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it. It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip.”
Chris Chibnall explains how the idea was hatched and new companion Dan created:
“It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man called Dan. Oh, we’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time. Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS.”
Cameos from comedians are nothing new in Doctor Who (David Mitchell, Robert Webb and Lee Mack for example), but Dan is to be a companion, not a one-off character. Bishop is due to appear in series 13 from the start. We wish him well.
