Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan

John Krasinski’s version of Jack Ryan is heading to the big screen

The star of The Office played the role for four seasons on Prime Video.

To a generation, John Krasinski is Jim Halpert, star of American version of The Office. He was half of the show’s central romance, as well as a straight man to the antics of Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson.

Since the show concluded in 2013, the actor has built a second strand to his career – directing, co-writing and starring in the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place and its 202o sequel. That’s in addition to a four-season, 30-episode stint playing Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

Now, Deadline are reporting that Krasinski’s take on the character is making a leap to a longer-form Jack Ryan movie. While it’s not specified, we’d imagine this is a streaming movie rather than one with a theatrical release. Not unlike the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31.

Tom Clancy’s character has been played on the big screen by four different actors. First by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October (1990), then twice by Harrison Ford for Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994).

Since then, the franchise has tried two restarts. Ben Affleck took on the role for 2002’s The Sum of All Fears, while Chris Pine led 2014’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – directed by Kenneth Branagh, no less!

While those big screen outings drew on Clancy’s novels, the new film has a script by Aaron Rabin, who wrote for the show’s fourth season. Andrew Bernstein directs, and reports suggest that both Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly, Ryan’s boss James Greer and station chief Mike November from the series, are in negotiations to reprise their roles.

We’ll keep you posted on Jack Ryan and you can find all four seasons of the show on Prime Video.
