Michelle Yeoh returns as the deadly Emperor Phillipa Georgiou and joins Starfleet’s Black Ops department.
Updated 08/12/24: Full trailer drops
With the Star Trek: Section 31 streaming movie dropping in just over six weeks, on January 24th, 2025, Paramount have revealed a full trailer.
The one minute, 50 second promo appears to show the former mirror universe Empress Phillipa Georgiou sitting at the heart of a lavish nightclub/space station before she’s drawn into Starfleet black ops work.
With the promise of an existential galactic threat and lots of shady-looking operatives, this looks like a lot of fun. How essentially Star Trek-y it is though remains to be seen.
There’s also a new poster (see above) with Michelle Yeoh looking like a badass and with her name firmly above the title. Well, she did win an Oscar, you know.
The movie will stream internationally on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Section 31 movie – teaser trailer and release date
Over the weekend, Paramount+ has used the New York Comic Con 2024 to drop a progress update on the various aspects of the Star Trek franchise.
With the movie arm of their operation seemingly unable to come up with anything since 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond, the next live-action feature is Star Trek: Section 31, a “Paramount+ Original Movie”. Is this a feature film? In earlier times we’d have called it a TV Movie or a feature-length episode. These days, with films made for the cinema making their debut on the streamers, who honestly knows?
Regardless of what you call it, Star Trek: Section 31 stars Michelle Yeoh. She reprises her role as the mirror universe Emperor Phillipa Georgiou, who appeared in the early seasons Star Trek: Discovery. In the new film, she joins a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she must also have to face the sins of her past.
Joining the Oscar winner, the film’s cast includes Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Plus, Miku Martineau (Kate) who plays a young Philippa Georgiou.
The film is written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi.
Star Trek: Section 31 premieres internationally on the Paramount+ streaming service on January 24th, 2025.
