The Kate London debut novel Post Mortem is the be made into a three-part thriller for ITV, titled The Tower
Acclaimed screenwriter and executive producer, Patrick Harbinson (Homeland, Fearless, 24, ER) is to adapt Kate London’s first novel for ITV. The Tower is the first in Kate London’s Metropolitan series of novels featuring Sergeant Sarah Collins and rookie Lizzie Griffiths. Harbinson will executive produce alongside Mammoth Screen’s founder and CEO Damien Timmer (The Serpent, Endeavour) and Karen Thrussell (Poldark, And Then There Were None).
Who is Kate London?
If the books are unfamiliar, her CV gives insight into the likely accuracy of The Tower. The following is according to her agents Curtis Brown (the source of the photo above):
Kate graduated from Cambridge University and moved to Paris to train in theatre. In 2006 she joined the Metropolitan Police Service where she stayed for eight years. She qualified as a detective constable and finished her service working on the Met’s homicide command. In August 2014, Kate resigned from the Police Service in order to dedicate herself to her crime writing and was named runner-up in Harper Bazaar’s 2019 short-story competition.
A varied set of experiences, and Kate herself talks about her career in the ITV announcement:
“In 2006 I ran away from the circus to join the police. Within a matter of weeks I was writing – not for publication, but because I just had to get down on paper the world I encountered: its complexity, laughter, loyalty, the moral conflicts and the dangers that were not only physical. Policing showed me London in a way no other job could. The product of this experience was my first novel, Post Mortem.”
So what is the novel about?
There’s a lot of crime drama on TV (currently we are looking forward to Line of Duty series 6, watching Unforgotten and awaiting Grace). Here’s part of the novel’s synopsis:
A long-serving beat cop in the Met and a teenage girl fall to their deaths from a tower block in London’s East End. Left alive on the roof are a five year old boy and rookie police officer Lizzie Griffiths. Within hours, Lizzie Griffiths has disappeared, and DPS officer Sarah Collins sets out to uncover the truth around the grisly deaths, in an investigation which takes her into the dark heart of policing in London.
We’re already intrigued!
