Some really shocking news to report, as it’s been announced that Keith Chegwin has died, at the age of just 60.
The BBC reports that he died after a long illness. He was suffering from a ‘progressive lung condition’.
Chegwin sprung to fame on the likes Swap Shop and Cheggers Plays Pop in the 1980s, making the jump to Saturday Superstore when Swap Shop closed its doors. He actually started out as an actor, appearing in Roman Polanski’s film of Macbeth, amongst others.
Chegwin was a veteran of live television (long before it became so commonplace in the modern era), and is embedded in the childhood memories of many of us. He is survived by his wife and two children, and leaves behind many happy memories, and a huge body of work.
