Viewers of Now TV can stream the 2019 Christmas romcom Last Christmas, and it’s available until Oct 2021
Last Christmas was released in 2019, and stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Henry Golding (Simple Favour) and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek Discovery). It also stars Emma Thompson (who also wrote the screenplay) and was widely dismissed by critics (Rotten Tomatoes scores of 47% for critics vs 81% for the audience reaction). It’s not perfect, but it makes a nice piece of escapism for the Christmas build-up.
Kate (Emilia Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Henry Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart. Last Christmas features the music of George Michael, including the bittersweet holiday classic of the film’s title.
It very much does what it says on the tin and if Emma Thompsons politics are a little overplayed, in the main this is a film that will entertain and leave a warm glow, long after you remember what it was exactly about. London looks fabulous, and seeing Michelle Yeoh play a part very different from the one she currently plays in Star Trek Discovery is a geeky extra.
