Lucifer has been cancelled; fans launch petition to save it

Lucifer – the satanic procedural series, which stars EastEnders alum Tom Ellis – has been cancelled by Fox after three seasons. The network has been clearing house of late, with the potential Disney takeover looming, ditching shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mick, The Last Man On Earth and New Girl.

Ellis himself took to Twitter to break the news, telling fans it has been an “amazing experience” and that he is “so sorry”:

The show’s passionate fan base immediately lept into action, with the social media hashtag #SaveLucifer getting plenty of attention. A petition also emerged on, calling on The CW, Hulu or Netflix to step in and save the show.

There is a precedent for shows and characters being saved, after all. When Constantine was cancelled, its star Matt Ryan found a new place to play John Constantine within The CW’s Arrowverse network of interconnected shows. And earlier this week, NBC swooped in and saved Brooklyn Nine-Nine shortly after Fox pulled the plug on it.

It’s unclear whether a certain number of digital signatures will be enough to save Lucifer, but it can’t hurt to add your name to the list at this link right here.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
