Lupin officially more popular than both Bridgerton and Queen’s Gambit

Netflix has today announced French series Lupin officially more popular than Regency epic Bridgerton and the sublime Queen’s Gambit

It feels like only yesterday [it was] we celebrated the launch of stylish French series Lupin (here) and now it’s breaking records. According to Netflix, it is project to be viewed by 70 million households in the first 28 days since release. It’s outstanding and tops Bridgerton targeted to reach 68 million (as we reported here though the target now seems revised to 63 million). The fabulous Queen’s Gambit reached an actual 62 million, and these are all impressive numbers. Unlike the newcomers, Queen’s Gambit is a limited (ie one-off) series, where as we predict many more series for both Bridgerton and Lupin.

Thanks to the report on Deadline, we learn Lupin launched to No. 1 across in France and remains in that position today. Netflix reports it has also ranked No. 1 in Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and many other countries. Lupin is 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. We don’t have a UK figure (yet).

Actor Omay Sy (who plays the lead Assane Diop) took to Twitter (@OmarSy) to say:

70 millions, that’s insane!!

🎉

So proud that Lupin is the first French Netflix Original series to be so successful internationally ! That wouldn’t have been possible without you.

🙏🏾

Thank you all.

Of course he led with the French version:

70 millions c’est fou ! Si fier que Lupin soit LA première série française Netflix à rencontrer un tel succès international ! Sans vous, cela n’aurait pas été possible. Merci à tous
