Mayfair Witches – the BBC picks up a second Anne Rice series

Posted Filed under

The show comes from the same “Immortal Universe” as Interview with the Vampire.

The BBC has announced that it has acquired the latest Anne Rice series from AMC Networks.

Based on the book trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the show stars Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) as Dr Ronan Fielding, an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers she possesses supernatural abilities and that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches.

However, as Ronan grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

The series promises to explore “… female empowerment and the mortal implications of our decisions” and has already been picked up for a second season. Joining Daddario in the show’s cast are Jack Huston (Fargo), Harry Hamlin (Mad Men) and Tongayi Chirisa (Palm Springs).

The series showrunner is Esta Spalding (Masters of Sex), who is an executive producer alongside Michelle Ashford. As are Mark Johnson, director Michael Uppendahl and Jeff Freilich. The series directors are by Uppendhal, Axelle Carolyn, Haifaa al-Mansour and Alexis Ostrander.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says:

“Mayfair Witches, the second series set in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, conjures up a darkly distinctive and richly atmospheric companion piece to the critically-acclaimed Interview with the Vampire.”

The eight-part series of Mayfair Witches will air on BBC Two. It will also stream on BBC iPlayer, where you can find Interview with the Vampire.
