Who Dares Wins more episodes…
SAS Rogue Heroes, the BBC drama from Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight, is getting a second series to continue its story.
The show, a raucous telling of the formation of the Special Air Service during World War Two, is based on the book by Ben Macintyre.
According to the BBC, the show has scored impressive viewing figures; with episode one attracting 9.4 million viewers (28-day all screens figure) it was the corporation’s biggest drama launch of the year. The boxset has also been available to binge on iPlayer too, which is how we consumed it.
Roaring Success
Steven Knight, who creates, writes and executive produces the show says:
“After the roaring success of Rogue Heroes I’m delighted to be embarking on the next chapter of the story. Series two will take the SAS into mainland Europe and will take our heroes to the limits of their endurance.”
Season One starred David Stirling (Connor Swindells), Jock Lewes (Alfie Allen) and Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) as lead characters. While it played a little fast and loose with history, we imagine Paddy Mayne will lead Season Two; we saw Jock Lewes die and Stirling spent the remainder of the war in and out of German and Italian hands. Although that might make fertile drama itself, especially as he ended up at Colditz Castle!
It will be interesting to see if there’s a continuing role for either Dominic West or Sofia Boutella in Series Two.
SAS Rogue Heroes Season One came from writer/executive producer Steven Knight, director by Tom Shankland and producer by Stephen Smallwood. Executive producers were Karen Wilson, Martin Haines and Emma Kingsman-Lloyd (Kudos), with Tommy Bulfin (BBC).
While we wait for the new run – filming takes place sometime in 2023 – you can catch the show on BBC iPlayer.
