The show promises to be an adventurous adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim story.
Updated 13/11/23: Over the weekend, Netflix dropped a final trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
It would be fair to say that we’re pretty excited about the new Scott Pilgrim anime here at CultBox Towers. Reuniting the movie’s impressive cast to voice their characters, it promises a new adaptation of the original graphic novels.
Dropping as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, the latest trailer eschews the action elements of the show, tilting instead towards Romana’s point of view…
The series lands at Netflix on November 17th, 2023.
Updated 16/10/23: Netflix land a full 2-minute trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
With the series’ launch just over a month away, Netflix have shared an explosive new Scott Pilgrim trailer.
Across a frenetic two minutes, we’re introduced to all the saga’s main characters – Scott, his friends, Ramona and her seven evil exes. This also serves to remind us that the cast has, remarkably, mapped over from Edgar Wright’s 2010 live-action movie. That’s surely no mean feat given some of the (now) high-profile names involved!
The streamer also delivered a clip two weeks ago, revealing Ramona Flowers’ retro job: she delivers DVDs for Netflix. We supposed that makes sense as the comic series did originate in the 2000s!

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off – first teaser for new Netflix amime
Last year, we were thrilled to hear that Netflix were backing a Scott Pilgrim anime series.
More recently, news dropped that the stellar cast of 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs The World are returning to voice their characters.
With a new adaptation of the original graphic novels by creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, the anime sees Michael Cera return as Scott Pilgrim, the love struck 23-year-old bass player of Sex Bob-Omb.
The story follows the him as he falls in love with New Yorker Ramona Flowers. However, in order to date her, he must defeat all seven of her evil exes. Then things get even more complicated.
Joining Cera are Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Johnny Simmons as young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, and Satya Bhabha, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, and Mae Whitman as the Evil Exes.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off comes from anime house Science SARU. It’s written and executive produced by O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski. The music is by Anamanaguchi (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game) and Joseph Trapanese.
Speaking of the returning cast, Bryan Lee O’Malley previously told Tudum:
“They’ve all gone on to do incredible things, but to me, they’re family. There — to this day — is still a group email with the entire cast on it, that’s been going since 2010. I was happy to be able to reach out to everyone with the news that we had finally come up with a way to continue the adventure. Seeing (and hearing) everyone come back to their roles has been a true pleasure.”
While Edgar Wright said:
“I knew that a live action sequel was unlikely, but I would usually defer by suggesting that perhaps an anime adaptation was an interesting way to go. And then, lo and behold, one day Netflix got in touch to ask about this exact idea. But even better, our brilliant creator Bryan Lee O’Malley had an idea that was way more adventurous than just a straight adaptation of the original books.”
