Producer Jason Ning is behind a new adaptation of the original source material.
Deadline have broken news that a series adaptation of the Wang DuLu’s Crane Iron Pentalogy is in the works.
Elements of the five books made it to the big screen in 2000 as Ang Lee’s stunning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The celebrated Oscar winning film starred Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-Fat and Zhang Ziyi.
Yeoh later returned to her character of Yu Shu Lien for 2016’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, released internationally via Netflix.

However, the source material, written between 1938 – 1944 has a much wider timespan, encompassing four generations of youxia, a type of ancient Chinese warrior folk hero.
The five titles in the series are;
Crane Startles Kunlun,
Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin,
Sword Force, Pearl Shine,
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Iron Knight, Silver Vase
The project comes through Sony’s overall deal with writer and producer Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Expanse). Roy Lee, Miri Yoon and Johnny Levin are also listed as executive producer.
