Spamalot movie back on after Paramount acquisition

The Spamalot movie is back on as Paramount acquire the title from Fox

Thanks to Deadline, Monty Python fans everywhere can look forward to the movie version of Spamalot, which is itself the musical theatre version of the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is itself a version of the King Arthur story with exploding rabbits. And the Black Knight.

We understand the Eric Idle script is ready to shoot and the director will be Casey Nikolaw, who first directed the show on Broadway. There’s no confirmation of possible casting, and anyone who has seen the show will remember casting changes frequently, and each performance can use a different guest appearance for God when he shows up near the end. The original Monty Python film only took around $1.9 million in 1975, but the original budget was a mere £200,000, with contributions including the bands Led Zepellin, Pink Floyd and Genesis. UK tax was running at 90%, hence the appeal to the then ultra-wealthy rock stars! The film received mixed reviews but in 2000 it was voted the fifth most important comedy of all time by readers of Total Film. The stage version won a Tony award when it ran on Broadway.

Dan Jinks (American Beauty) joins as producer.
