With Discovery’s second series production start date imminent fans have been waiting on tenterhooks awaiting news of new casting.

The show ended its first run with the iconic Enterprise hailing Saru and his crew. On the end of that hail was Captain Pike, a character that has remained part of Trek’s lore since the pilot.

Now we know Anson Mount will take on this role, previously played by Jeffery Hunter in the Original series and Bruce Greenwood in the 2009 reboot movie series.

It is not yet known if Mount will be a guest star or take on a much more permanent role, but we’ll update you as an when further news comes in.
