Get ready for the final missions of the USS Cerritos!

We’ve known for a while that the upcoming fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will be its last.

The wacky animated series has entertained us since 2020, following the adventures of the junior officers on a Starfleet ship supposedly engaged in the more mundane aspects of Federation life.

The USS Cerritos has more than earned its place in the Star Trek universe, with endearing characters and some superbly Star Trek franchise referential elements.

In 2023, ensigns Mariner and Boimler even found themselves converted to live-action for a terrific Strange New Worlds crossover episode.

Here’s what we know about the upcoming run…

In Season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” — subspace rifts that are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Junior Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford… if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries, and scariest of all — their own career aspirations.

This upcoming season is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.

Following September’s clip and an earlier teaser, there’s now a full season trailer.

The trailer promises tons of action (including a Borg cube), all the usual hijinks and multiple iterations of Star Trek: Voyager‘s Harry Kim (Garrett Wang).

The Lower Decks gang are Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero. Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O’Connell, Fred Tatasciore, and Gillian Vigman play the U.S.S. Cerritos bridge crew.

Star Trek: Lower Decks comes from animation studio Titmouse, CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive producers include Alex Kurtzman, Mike McMahan, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.

The action begins at Paramount+ with two episodes debuting on Thursday, October 24th, 2024 in the U.S. and internationally. Eight weekly episodes follow, culminating in the series finale on Thursday, December 19th.
