San Diego Comic Con debuted three Star Trek trailers – for Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and Section 31.
It’s been a busy old time at the San Diego Comic Con this year, with plenty of Star Trek news.
This included trailers for two returning shows, as well as a teaser for the forthcoming Section 31 movie.
Strange New Worlds Season 3
We already know the live action Strange New Worlds has its fourth season assured, but this was a first look at the show’s upcoming third run.
We were treated to an extended excerpt from an upcoming episode which sees some of the crew turned Vulcan for a hilarious away mission.
Season 3 debuts in 2025, with a new cast member; Cillian O’Sullivan takes on the role of Dr. Roger Korby. Mentioned in passing in season 2, he’s a legacy character whose future is tied to Christine Chapel.
Lower Decks Final Season
We don’t have to wait as long for Lower Decks however. The animated show’s fifth and final series begins with a double-episode premiere on Thursday, 24th October 2024. Weekly episodes follow thereafter, through to the season finale on Thursday, December 19th.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” — subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford… if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all — their own career aspirations. This upcoming season is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
We also learned that the series is uniting with Doctor Who in game form for a story to celebrate International Friendship Day.
Section 31
Finally, the first teaser for the upcoming Section 31 movie was revealed. It stars Michelle Yeoh as the former Mirror Universe despot Emperor Phillipa Georgiou, recruited to Star Fleet’s black ops.
We’re told that “Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past.”
Alongside Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31 also stars Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez James Hiroyuki Liao. Plus, the teaser reveals Miku Martineau playing a young Philippa Georgiou.
The film comes from writer Craig Sweeny and director Olatunde Osunsanmi. It premieres on Paramount+ in early 2025.
