Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as the former mirror universe Emperor Philippa Georgiou.
The official Star Trek website has confirmed that production is underway on the Section 31 movie.
Starring Michelle Yeoh, the Paramount+ film follows her Star Trek: Discovery character, the ruthless mirror universe iteration of Philippa Georgiou. She joins the secretive black ops division of Starfleet who are tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets by any means.
However, the former Emperor of the Terran Empire must also face the sins of her past too.
A new cast
Joining Michelle Yeoh for this new adventure are a cast of new Star Trek faces. They include Omari Hardwick (Powers), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).
However, there’s no suggestion that Shazad Latif’s Lt. Ash Tyler, or any of the Strange New Worlds cast will appear. Given Georgiou’s last appearance on Discovery sent her back in time via the Guardian of Forever, there’s no confirmation as to when the movie is set in the Star Trek timeline.
The Star Trek: Section 31 movie comes from writer Craig Sweeny and director Olatunde Osunsanmi. Executive producers are Sweeny, Osunsanmi, Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Michelle Yeoh. CBS Studios produce, in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman said:
“And we’re off to the races! Thrilled to report principal photography has started on Star Trek: Section 31. We welcome our incredible cast of new characters as they join our beloved Michelle Yeoh on her next wild adventure across the Trek universe.”
We’ll keep you posted on the Star Trek: Section 31 movie.
