According to the latest information (and some convincing evidence) it seems we now know when Star Wars: Kenobi will start filming
Various outlets are reporting a January 4 2021 date for filming to commence on the big Star Wars project we’ve all been wanting. We’ve known Ewan McGregor was to get his own spin-off series but when? We are now fairly certain the series will be Star Wars: Kenobi and it starts filming early next year. The main evidence is a snapshot from industry website Production List. Here’s the entry:
Star Wars: Kenobi (Series)
Shoot Date: | January 04, 2021 |
---|---|
Locations: | Boston, MA, United States London, United Kingdom |
Tatooine-a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy.
So, as we might have expected it’s set on Tatooine, and all about watching over infant Luke Skywalker. Perhaps follow-on series will see Luke get older, but for now he’s an infant in the care of Beru and Owen Lars and Obi-wan wants to keep him safe and undiscovered. No word yet on plots or other returning characters.
The history of this project has been littered with false starts, rumours and the inevitable pandemic delays. Even Ewan McGregor himself added to this — in October he video’d into the Graham Norton Show and confirmed a filming date starting in March!
Next year is an important milestone for Lucasfilm — it’s 50 years old in 2021! There are plenty of things planned for next year and the official news piece on the Star Wars site mentions:
The celebration will kick off with commemorative, fan-favorite 50th anniversary Star Wars products. The launch starts in January and will continue throughout the year with special edition product releases.
We predict this will include at least something new for Obi-Wan and baby Luke!
