Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld - Asajj Ventress

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld – new animated shorts announced

The six-part story follows the stories of two notorious bounty hunters.

Series of animated Star Wars shorts are quite the regular treat these days.

Star Wars: Visions lets international animation houses play, while the Tales series fills in backstory on various characters. Tales of the Jedi looked at Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, and Tales of the Empire focused on Imperial villains.

Now, the latest run of animations considers two adversaries who fall through the cracks between empire and rebellion. Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld stars two feared bounty hunters: former  assassin Asajj Ventress and the outlaw Cad Bane.

To live action viewers, Cad Bane may be more familiar thanks to his live-action appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. However, like Bane, Asajj Ventress has a rich history across Star Wars animated series. She is a Nightsister of Dathomir who served as an acolyte of Count Dooku and survived the fall of the Empire. More recently, she returned for the third season of The Bad Batch too.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Enter the galaxy’s dangerous underworld in this six-episode journey through the experiences of two iconic villains. Former assassin and bounty hunter Asajj Ventress is given a new chance at life and must go on the run with an unexpected new ally, while outlaw Cad Bane faces his past when he confronts an old friend, now a Marshal on the opposite side of the law.

The series stars returning voice actors Nika Futterman as Asajj Ventress and Corey Burton as Cad Bane, as well as Artt Butler, Lane Factor, AJ LoCascio, Clare Grant, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Eric Lopez.

The series comes from creator and executive producer Dave Filoni, and writer Matt Michnovetz.

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld lands at Disney+ on May 4th 2025.
