Star Wars: The Mandalorian season 3 in the works at Disney+

Pre-production on season 3 got underway this week…

October will bring a second season of Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, to Disney+, but a third season is already in development at the streamer, with a source telling Variety that the team behind the popular show set in a galaxy far, far away has “just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian” and confirming that creator Favreau has been “writing season 3 for a while.”

The Mandalorian finished filming in March, just before production was shut down across the industry, and will therefore be one of the only big shows on schedule for the autumn. Disney+’s other two live-action Star Wars series, a prequel based on the spy adventures of Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor, and a prequel based on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, weren’t so lucky, as both stalled in the first stages of writing and filming had to be pushed back. Now, both shows will have to wait their turn once production in the US starts back up again.

Several of season 2’s guest stars have already been announced, including Aliens and Terminator star Michael Biehn, but Rosario Dawson’s rumoured turn as the live-action version of popular Star Wars badass Ahsoka Tano hasn’t yet been officially revealed.

“That’s not confirmed yet but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point,” Dawson recently commented, adding that her casting will be “a million and one percent because of the fans.”
