Starfleet Academy series – filming begins

The YA skewed series is set in the 32nd Century, after the events of Star Trek: Discovery

With the full cast revealed via StarTrek.com, production is now underway on the Starfleet Academy series.

The new intake of cadets includes Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner and Sandro Rosta. They’ll be under the command of Holly Hunter, who plays the captain and chancellor of the Academy.

The series also promises returning faces from across the franchise. The Discovery’s engineer Jett Reno (Tig Notaro) stars, as does Voyager’s holographic medic The Doctor (Robert Picardo). Both Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) and Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) will also guest star.

Both Paul Giamatti and Gina Yashere are also appearing as recurring guests throughout the season too.

The synopsis for Starfleet Academy says:

“‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau serve as co-showrunners and executive produce the series. Other executive producers include Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
