Elisabeth Moss hunts a creepy Jamie Bell through multiple realities.
With a month until it launches, Apple TV+ have released a full trailer for Shining Girls. They call it a ‘metaphysical thriller’, but we’re pretty sure it counts as science fiction. Whatever you choose to call it, the show looks terrific!
The series, an eight-part adaptation of Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel, stars Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) in the lead role of Kirby. Or, by the looks of the trailer, multiple iterations of Kirby.
Here’s the premise:
Shining Girls follows Kirby Mazrachi, a Chicago newspaper archivist whose journalistic ambitions were put on hold after enduring a traumatic assault.
When Kirby learns that a recent murder mirrors her own case, she partners with seasoned, yet troubled reporter Dan Velazquez, to uncover her attacker’s identity.
As they realize these cold cases are inextricably linked, their own personal traumas and Kirby’s blurred reality allow her assailant to remain one step ahead.
While February’s teaser trailer only gave us brief glimpses of Jamie Bell, this tense fuller promo showcases his ominous threat. We also see more of Phillipa Soo (Hamilton), who looks poised to be another of the villain’s victims. Wagner Moura also stars in the show, as does Amy Brenneman,
The whole affair looks incredibly cleverly put together, as characters shift from moment to moment, changing their look.
Shining Girls lands at Apple TV+ on Friday, April the 29th. With a split release pattern, the first three episodes drop that night and with subsequent instalments land on successive Fridays.
