Elisabeth Moss leads the cast of the ‘metaphysical thriller’, along with Phillipa Soo and Jamie Bell.
Apple TV+’s attempts to make waves on the small screen continue with the teaser for their upcoming thriller. Launching at the end of April, Shining Girls is an adaptation of Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel. The story plays out across eight episodes.
Here’s the premise:
Years after a brutal attack left her in a constant shifting reality, Kirby Mazrachi learns that a recent murder is linked to her assault. She teams with veteran reporter Dan Velaquez to understand her ever-changing present – and confront her past.
The show stars Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) in the lead role of Kirby. Joining her are Hamilton‘s Phillipa Soo, Jamie Bell (Rocketman), Amy Brenneman (The Leftovers) and Wagner Moura (Narcos).

Produced by MRC Television, Shining Girls is written and executive produced by Silka Luis, who is also showrunner. Additionally, Elisabeth Moss is directing two episodes and executive producing through her Love and Squalor Pictures banner. The first two episodes however, are directed by Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad) with the remainder by Daina Reid (The Handmaid’s Tale).
As ever, there’s a handsome list of executive producers but one name jumps out; Leonardo DiCaprio is on board through his Appian Way production company.
“Reality is a matter of perspective”
We think the trailer looks great, but wonder at its ‘metaphysical thriller’ billing. Whatever happened to good old science fiction? With a time-travelling serial killer, it looks like it to us!
Shining Girls lands at Apple TV+ on Friday, April the 29th. As is becoming common, there’s a split release pattern: the first three episodes drop that night, with subsequent installments landing on successive Fridays.
