The Austin Powers and Wayne’s World star is back with a six-part series for the streamer.
The Pentaverate is a new Netflix comedy series starring Mike Myers which we first mentioned last year. Further to our previous report the comic – who’s created and executive produced the show – now appears in eight different roles!
The story follows old-school news journalist Ken Scarborough who finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and save the world from an Illuminati-style organisation. It’s based on the conspiracy theories from his 1993 film, So I Married an Axe Murderer.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis:
What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347? As this new series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself. Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!
They dropped a teaser last month:
And now we’ve been treated to a full-blown two minute trailer:
We’re pretty sure it’s not going to be high art, but The Da Vinci Code and its ilk are ripe for a good ribbing. It certainly looks to have an impressive budget too and you can’t ignore that cast!
Myers in multiple aspects
Myers will appear as (deep breath) the journalist Ken Scarborough, a New England conspiracy theorist and a far-right radio host. Plus there’s a former media mogul, an ex-Russian oligarch and a former music manager. Not forgetting a tech genius and finally, The Pentaverate’s oldest and highest-ranking member, Lord Lordington.
He’s joined in the show by a fascinating list of names; Ken Jeong (Community), Keegan-Michael Key (The Bubble), Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders and Lydia West (It’s A Sin) will all star.
Tim Kirkby (Fleabag, Don’t Forget the Driver) is directing the show. He also executive produces along with Myers, Jason Weinberg, John Lyons, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns.
The Pentaverate lands on Netflix on Friday, May the 5th.
