The final run of Stranger Things is expected to land in 2025.
After a long wait, Netflix’s monster hit Stranger Things has begun production on its fifth and final season. The show was on the eve of production just as the WGA strike began in May 2023, thus delaying it by approximately seven months.
Netflix celebrated the news with a photo on social media, along with the confirmation and an inordinate number of exclamation marks.
The photo features cast members and productions staff: Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Amybeth McNulty, Charlie Heaton, Brett Gelman, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Jamie Campbell Bower, Priah Ferguson, Linda Hamilton, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Ross Duffer, Matt Duffer, Finn Wolfhard, and Sadie Sink.
Stick the Landing
Speaking to Deadline last year, creators Matt and Ross Duffer said their primary goal is to “stick the landing”, saying:
“Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different. I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer. It’s going to be ‘Return of the King’-ish with, like, eight endings.”
Stranger Things Spinoffs
While the main show might be drawing to a close, there’s seemingly plenty of mileage in the Stranger Things universe. Netflix have already announced an animated series, while the show has also spawned a successful West End show too.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow opened to rave reviews and scored eight nominations, including Best New Play, at the What’s On Stage Awards 2024.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow plays at the Phoenix Theatre and is taking bookings up to August 2024.
