Even as Tomb Raider valiantly attempts to break the curse of the videogame movie on the big screen, Entertainment One is taking a different approach for a new adaptation of Street Fighter.
The classic beat ‘em up series Street Fighter has been a screen production before, courtesy of the 1990s movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue and Raul Julia. This time, it’s a TV show we’re getting, that’s recruited the team behind the live action web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.
The plan is to use the World Warrior story arc from the games for the new show.
In the words of EOne president and chief content officer, ““Street Fighter is a global tour de force franchise, having garnered immense worldwide commercial success and built a vast devoted fanbase that has only grown through its 30 year legacy. We are thrilled to be teaming up with Joey, Jacqueline and Mark [that’s the Assassin’s Fist team], who are already so deeply connected to this brand, to bring this adored story to television audiences everywhere”.
No casting news or dates have been announced thus far. More as we hear it…
