We’ve seen her as a spy, but now Keeley Hawes plays a retired assassin. 

Prime Video have dropped the trailer for The Assassin, their upcoming thriller series. It stars Keeley Hawes (Scoop) and Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) as a mother with a past and her son.

The series comes from Harry & Jack Williams, and their production company Two Brothers (The Tourist). It looks like a lot of fun.

Here’s what we know about The Assassin

The six-part show sees retired assassin Julie (Keeley Hawes) and her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore) amidst high-stake drama and thrilling action as they are forced to flee an idyllic Greek island when Julie’s dangerous past catches up with her. With questions around Edward’s paternity and Julie’s past life as a hitwoman, the pair go on the run across Europe, working together in a fight for survival.

Along the way, their dysfunctional relationship is tested to its limits. They uncover a dark conspiracy they believe to be their only threat, but a greater danger emerges that could destroy their relationship entirely. In a race against time, Julie fights to save Edward and salvage their relationship as past and present collide in a showdown across the globe…

The wider cast includes Jack Davenport (Ten Percent), Alan Dale (Lost) and Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist). Also, Gina Gershon (Riverdale), Gerald Kyd (The Swarm), Devon Terrell (Totally Completely Fine), Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and David Dencik (The Ipcress File).

The show’s writers are Harry and Jack Williams, with Krissie Ducker (Sweetpea), Hamish Wright (Significant Other) and Selina Lim (Sex Education). The directors are Lisa Mulcahy (The Tourist) and Daniel Nettheim (Boat Story).

The Assassin lands in full at Prime Video on 25th September, 2025.
