The long-awaited screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower finally made it into cinemas over the summer, and left not long afterwards. The film – intended to launch a franchise of movies as well as a TV show – spluttered at the box office, and plans for a second were quickly nixed.
However, the idea of the TV show lives on, with King himself suggesting that the show would be a complete reboot in the aftermath of the film. Idris Elba headlined the movie, though, and in a new interview with Screencrush, he’s admitted that he’s in the dark on The Dark Tower TV series.
“You know what? I didn’t know Stephen said that”, he said of the reboot comments. “I don’t know, actually, where it lies. I must figure this out, I don’t know where it lies. I’m unfortunately the last to know at this point”.
Hmmm. The TV show is still pressing ahead, with Glen Mazzara involved in the show. But it sounds as thought there’s a bit of work to do yet. Not least in telling Idris Elba if he’s needed for it or not.
On the upside, Elba will be shooting more episodes of Luther in the new year…
