The streamer has commissioned a follow-on show, with Guy Ritchie directing.

Paramount+ has announced a new show, continuing the legacy of Ray Donovan – via news in Deadline.

The Donovans, from writer Ronan Bennett (Top Boy), is billed as an extension of the franchise.

The original Ray Donovan, created by Ann Biderman, followed the exploits of a Hollywood fixer and his extended family. With Liev Schreiber in the title role, it ran for seven seasons between 2013 and 2020 on Showtime. The wider ensemble included Eddie Marsan, Paula Malcomson, Dash Mihok and Jon Voight.

The story was subsequently capped off with Ray Donovan: The Movie in 2022, offering fans some closure after the show’s cancellation.

Here’s the premise for The Donovans:

With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow. The Donovans follows two generations of gangsters, the businesses they run, the complex relationships they weave and the man they call upon to fix their problem.

Ronan Bennet writes all ten episodes, while Guy Ritchie is directing. Both take executive producer roles, alongside David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin and Ivan Atkinson.

Both Ronan Bennett and Guy Ritchie have other projects in the offing. Casting for Bennett’s take of The Day of the Jackal has just been announced, with Eddie Redmayne in the title role.

Meanwhile, Richie’s The Gentleman series, a sequel to his 2019 movie, lands at Prime Video on 7th March.
