Just what is The Flipside of Dominick Hide
First shown in 1980 as part of the BBC Play for Today series, and last shown in 2008, the BBC’s summary reads:
Comedy drama originally broadcast in 1980. A time traveller from 2130 is studying the London transport system. Although his role should be strictly that of an observer, he sets off on a quest of his own and complicates matters by falling in love.
Dominick was played by Peter Firth, and was notable stepping stone in his journey from the Double Deckers to Spooks via Equus. The Talking Pictures TV weekly newsletter adds:
Naturally Dominick struggles to stick to the rules! It’s a stand-out play that still stands the test of time, so we hope you enjoy it. Keep an eye out too for a young Phil Davis.
Packed full of classic time travel tropes, it was very popular and let to a sequel — 1982’s Another Flip for Dominick. In our view it’s essential viewing for any fan of British cult television and we will certainly be making the effort to watch. Fingers crossed for the sequel sometime soon.
