The Irregulars official trailer from Netflix adds to the anticipation

Netflix has released The Irregulars official trailer and it shows some interesting angles to this supernatural Holmesian series

We mentioned the new Netflix Victorian series The Irregulars a few weeks ago when we had the start date and teaser trailer. The show is coming on March 26, in other words next Friday (at the time of writing). The trailer is the usual high drama rush of action, music and CGI and we have to say it does make the show look worth a watch. It also puts an unexpected spotlight on Dr John Watson.

The Netflix media centre page for the series has this summary:

Set in Victorian London, the series follows a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes. As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, it’ll be up to the Irregulars to come together to save not only London but the entire world.

It already hints that Holmes is not the focus of this series, and uses the word sinister to describe Watson. Now look at the synopsis under the Irregulars official trailer:

Meet The Irregulars: Bea, Jessie, Billy, Spike and Leo. Join this ragtag gang as they uncover the demonic and mysterious depths of Victorian London alongside the sinister Dr Watson and his enigmatic business partner, Sherlock Holmes

The story has moved from ‘manipulated’ to ‘alongside’. We may be reading too much into the language, but we do wonder if at least some of the series has the ‘ragtag gang’ carve their own path and only aligning with Watson near the end when the big picture is revealed? Like everyone else, we’ll find out before the end of the month!
