The series is likely to pull material from other Pike books, too…
Mike Flanagan has set his sights on a spooky new series at Netflix. Having finished The Haunting of Hill House and readying The Haunting of Bly Manor for the streaming service, Doctor Sleep director Flanagan will eventually move on to adapt Christopher Pike’s The Midnight Club with Once Upon a Time‘s Leah Fong.
According to Variety, some of Pike’s other tomes will also be picked up to merge with this version of 1994’s The Midnight Club, which takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers. In the forthcoming series, a group of patients “begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave.”
Flanagan is also in the middle of shooting Midnight Mass for Netflix, but production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series “follows an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events — and frightening omens — after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.”
The Haunting of Hill House was a pretty big success for Flanagan on the streaming platform, and he has a multi-year TV deal with Netflix to produce a string of new shows.
“I began brainstorming an adaptation of The Midnight Club as a teenager, so this is a dream come true,” Flanagan confirmed over on Twitter. “It’s an honour to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike.”
