Season 2 of The Sandman will arrive in two volumes during July.
The long-awaited second and final season of The Sandman will soon be upon us.
Like many of their highly rated shows, Netflix are dropping the series in two volumes:
- The 6-part Volume 1 lands on Thursday July 3rd.
- The 5-part Volume 2 follows three weeks later on Thursday July 24th.
Here’s what to expect, courtesy of showrunner, executive producer, and writer Allan Heinberg:
At the end of last season, Dream uncreated the rogue nightmare, The Corinthian, and destroyed the Dream Vortex that threatened to consume his kingdom and our universe. Meanwhile, in Hell, Lucifer and Mazikeen plotted their revenge against Dream for having publicly embarrassed them in Episode 4. Finally — in an important coda to the season — Dream came to the aid of his estranged wife, the muse Calliope, with whom he had fallen out over the fate of their son, Orpheus.
Season 2 begins a few weeks later. After more than a century away from the Dreaming, Dream has been restoring and rebuilding his kingdom. As he transforms the palace, he vows to leave the past behind and look to the future. The past, of course, has other ideas.
The date announcement trailer begins with a scene which sees Destiny (Adrian Lester) summon all the Endless together…
There’s lots of coverage in this latest Tudum article, including images and a breakdown of the new and returning cast.
However, you won’t find a mention of Neil Gaiman, the original creator of the comic series on which the show is based, who remains mired in sexual assault and misconduct allegations, which he denies. Gaiman remains as an executive producer on the series, as does David S. Goyer.
