“Now, for the first time, I understand real fear.”

Updated 13/06/23: Netflix have dropped an epic full length trailer for The Witcher season 3.

With the first volume of The Witcher season 3 landing on June 29th, 2023, Netflix are getting serious with the promotion.

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming episodes:

Chaos is coming.

As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture Ciri, Geralt takes her into hiding. He’s determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back, putting everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.

Lots of action, plenty of menace and monsters!

The season’s second volume follows on 27th July. In the meantime, we’ve had confirmation that the show will film a fifth season soon after it completes the fourth. Both, as it has been widely reported, will see Liam Hemsworth inherit the lead role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill.

If you want to read up on the show before it returns, TUDUM have posted a lengthy interview with the cast and the showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

The Witcher Season 3 – a new teaser trailer lands (updated)

Updated 26/04/23: As teased with that poster image, we do indeed have a teaser for The Witcher season 3.

The teaser is brief and atmospheric, promising real peril for Geralt and his friends as the show adapts the novel Time of Contempt.

We also discovered that the season lands in two volumes. It’s a strategy that Netflix have deployed to great effect with other shows, including Stranger Things, offering two bites of the promotional apple. Volume 1 drops on June 29th 2023 and it contains the first five episodes. Volume 2 follows four weeks later, on July 27th, with the remaining three.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explained to Tudum that while the season wasn’t designed with a break, the narrative lends itself well to it: “… there’s an epic event that explodes the Continent as we know it — the lead-up to which provided a perfect cliff-hanger for us. We couldn’t have planned it better.”

The streamer also revealed a second, more action-oriented poster image for the upcoming run:

And the show’s social media teases something… could it be The Witcher Season 3 trailer?

With the third season of The Witcher, a first poster image for the show has been revealed.

The Witcher Season 3 poster

With Geralt (Henry Cavill) looking vengeful, Ciri (Freya Allan) terrified and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) staring straight down the barrel at us, it certainly sets a tone!

Released on social media, the accompanying post implores us to “Hold tight. ‘Til tomorrow.” We’re guessing that means a trailer or, at the least, confirmation of the new season’s release date. So far, we just know that it returns this summer.

The Witcher Season 3 will be Henry Cavill’s last – he’s confirmed that the role of Geralt of Rivia passes to Liam Hemsworth for Season 4.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted.
