The show’s future seems secure as Season 5 of The Witcher heads into production soon after Season 4.
Netflix may have a reputation for wielding the axe, but it appears The Witcher has the streamer’s full confidence.
Thanks to a recent interview with Deadline, the show’s casting director has confirmed the fifth season heads into production hot on the heels of the fourth. She said:
“We’re just about to start filming on season four with Liam Hemsworth and there will be a short gap then we go straight into season five.”
Holland’s interview is wide-ranging, looking at the issue of self-tapes and access to auditions. It also covers working with Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton on Wednesday too. There’s a suggestion that Season 2 of that show will begin filming before the end of the year.
Dolph Lundgren
In related news, it has been reported that the veteran action movie star Dolph Lundgren has joined a spinoff of The Witcher. From a report in Sweden’s Aftonbladet (spotted via Dark Horizons), which deals mainly with the actor’s lung cancer battle, we learned that he is working on the show in South Africa.
It’s believed that the spinoff has cast Lundgren as the bounty hunger Leo Bonhart. It will reveal the backstory of the ‘Rats’, a bunch of young thieves making their debut in Season 3.
The Witcher Season 3, Henry Cavill’s last as Geralt of Rivia, lands in two parts. Volume 1 arrives on June 29th 2023, while Volume 2 follows four weeks later on July 27th.
We’ll keep you posted.
