Steven Toast is back and he’s heading to Hollywood!
We recently reported that the whole Toast of London back catalogue had landed on BBC iPlayer.
This was a canny move on behalf of Auntie’s streaming service, as they’re about to show the wayward thesp’s continuing mis-adventures in Toast of Tinseltown. Matt Berry’s louche performer has six episodes set in the United States, which begin in the New Year.
Here’s the synopsis:
Steven Toast, actor, voice-over artist, and legend of the London theatrical scene, has reached PEAK ANGER. After a final, very violent, confrontation with his old nemesis Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock), he decides to head off for a new life in the US of A, where he has been promised a ‘leading role’ in a major Hollywood franchise movie.
On the road to making it big in America he meets an extremely angry director, becomes a success in a soap opera playing a doctor, bites off the ear of a Hollywood A-lister, and gets lost in the desert… he may be out of London, but he’s never out of bad luck.
“Hooray for Hollywood – you’re going to Tinseltown, Toast!”
In the trailer, we see a few familiar faces; Toast’s agent Jane Plough (Doon Mackichan) and his landord Ed Howzer-Black (Robert Bathurst) both appear.
Additionally, there’s a surprise appearance by the iconic Clem Fandango (Shazad Latif), whose presence certainly provokes a stunned reaction!
Toast of Tinseltown lands on BBC Two at 10pm on the 4th of January 2022. It will be on BBC iPlayer thereafter. For a rundown of the new episodes, check here.
Yes, we can hear you Clem Fandango!
