The series also stars Alimi Ballard, Mara Wilson and Warren Brown.

It’s been a while since audio producers Big Finish have launched an original series – previously they’ve explored Roman history with Cicero, horror in Blind Terror and WWII heroism with ATA Girl.

Today, they’ve announced two volumes of Vam PD, a new audio drama which follows the officers of the vampire police as they hunt down immortal lawbreakers.

Here’s the premise of Vam PD:

Vampires live their lives by rules – but who polices them? Welcome to the Office of the Night, where vampires Catrin and Magnus keep an uneasy peace between the living and the undead.

Throughout the series, the officers crack down on illegal blood-tasting parties, discover a thriving red market, investigate a cult that offers vampires the ability to walk in the sun, and more – all in a night’s work.

Vam PD stars Juliet Landau (Buffy’s Drusilla) as Catrin, with Alimi Ballard (Numb3rs, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) as Magnus.

They’re joined by nineties icon Mara Wilson (Mrs Doubtfire, Matilda) who guest stars as Jane, the Office of the Night’s human liaison, while Warren Brown (Ten Pound Poms) plays Orhan, an important man in Jane’s life.

The series is created by the prolific writer/producer James Goss, who pens all three episodes in the first volume. Rochana Patel & David Smith, Aaron Lamont and Ash Darby writer the second volume. The directors are Ursula Burton and David O’Mahony.

Producer Lizzie Worsdell said:

“I am so excited for everyone to hear Vam PD. It features two iconic leads in Mara Wilson and Juliet Landau as well as a stellar supporting cast. The writing is brilliantly clever, witty and camp – a take on a vampire story that we haven’t encountered before. Listeners can expect mystery, comedy, a bit of gore and lots of vampires! If you like Buffy or Lucifer, this is the series for you.”

Juliet Landau adds:

“Big Finish reached out and said that James Goss had written the role of Catrin for me. I initially wasn’t sure I wanted to do another vampire project, but then I started reading the scripts and began laughing out loud – which isn’t something I generally do. I’m a person who thinks ‘that’s funny’ rather than laughing. But I was guffawing. In fact, my husband Dev asked from the other room, ‘What’s going on in there? What are you doing?’ And I said, ‘Vam PD! That’s what’s happening!’”

Mara Wilson said:

“First and foremost, Vam PD is really bloody funny. But it’s also got suspense, it’s got hijinks, it’s got lore, it’s got camaraderie, it’s even got a touch of sweetness. But above all, it’s funny. And yes, there’s a lot of blood. I mean, they’re vampires, of course there’s blood.”

The first volume of Vam PD is out in October 2024. Volume 2 follows in February 2025.

Both volumes are now available to pre-order as digital downloads, exclusively from Big Finish.
