There’s still a couple of months to go until the Addams Family arrive.
In a move that has surprised us, the Netflix TUDUM event over the weekend has revealed the launch date for Wednesday. Skipping over the Halloween start we anticipated, the Addams Family television show is aimed squarely at Thanksgiving; Wednesday premieres on November 23rd 2022.
We probably don’t need to tell you what day of the week that is.
The show, which recently dropped an inviting promo for its Nevermore Academy – the focus of its supernatural shenanigans – will run for eight episodes. Visionary director Tim Burton helms the first four and he also executive produces. The showrunners are Miles Millar and Alfred Gough (Smallville).
Wednesday vs Thing
As part of the date announcement, we also now have a clip from the show. It sees Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) interrogating Thing, the severed family familiar, whom she accuses of spying for her parents:
Joining Jenna Ortega, the show will reintroduce us to a family of familiar characters; Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia, while Luis Guzman is Gomez and Isaac Ordonez plays Wednesday’s younger brother Pugsley. George Burcea is Lurch, the family butler, but the showrunners remain tight-lipped about Gomez’s brother, Wednesday’s Uncle Fester.
In the wider cast, Gwendoline Christie plays Nevermore’s Principal Larissa Weems and we can look out for former movie Wednesday Addams Christina Ricci in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
Back to School
Supporting the date announcement, Netflix have also provided a rain-soaked poster which sees Wednesday sporting her new school uniform.
As one might expect, she looks thoroughly underwhelmed.
We’ll keep you posted.
