The upcoming Addams Family show welcomes “… students are from all walks of life and death!”
While we still don’t have a start date for Wednesday, Netflix’s Addams Family series, the promos continue.
From Smallville creators Gough and Millar, and director Tim Burton, the show follows the Addams’ teenage daughter (Jenna Ortega) as she strikes out on her own.
In Wednesday, she’ll attempt to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that’s terrorised the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.
While there’s been plenty of focus on the new Ms Addams and her family, the show’s latest trailer showcases the educational institution she attends: Nevermore Academy. This begins with an introduction from Principal Larissa Weems, played by Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, The Sandman):
“In a world full of normies, do you feel like an outcast?”
The promotional video maintains its tone throughout and reveals numerous Addams nods such as pictures of Gomez, Morticia and Cousin It. It also highlights the connection to its most famous graduate, poet Edgar Allan Poe, and suggests they welcome werewolves, vampires, gorgons, sirens and other such gifted students.
During the video, we briefly meet siren Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) and vampire Yoko Tanaka (Naomi J. Ogawa), amongst others.
Many of the show’s young cast are also featured in exclusive images on at Teen Vogue, which are worth checking out.

Thanks to the Nevermore Academy’s website, you can engage with the show online and even apply to study at Nevermore. The Academy’s mission is stated thus:
“Founded in 1791, Nevermore Academy is an academic institution that nurtures outcasts, freaks and monsters. Our mission is to help each student master their extraordinary abilities through world-class academics and unique extracurriculars.”
The site offers alumni profiles and a meet the students section. There’s also an activities and events section, possibly alluding to events from the series including Parents Day, Outreach Day and The Poe Cup. We love a good in-universe site, even if it is really just a glorified mailing list recruiter.
The Cast
In addition to Jenna Ortega, the show stars Luis Guzman as Gomez, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.
Plus, there’s Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems, George Burcea as Lurch and Victor Dorobantu as Thing. Also in the cast are Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White and former movie Wednesday Christina Ricci.
Notably, there’s still no mention of Uncle Fester; a subject on which showrunner Alfred Gough has simply said: “We have no comment on Uncle Fester. Watch the show.”
As we said, there’s still no confirmed date for Wednesday, which is an eight-part series. However, Netflix have just launched a new ‘Streams & Screams’ tab for Halloween; it’s hard to imagine the show won’t find a home there around October 31st.
