While we impatiently await Wednesday season 2, the series’ third run is confirmed.
In news unlikely to shock, given the eyeballs that the series draws, Netflix has confirmed a third season of Wednesday.
The announcement comes ahead of the Addams Family show’s hotly anticipated second run which arrives in August and September.
The news first broke via an interview with star Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton in The Hollywood Reporter, in which the pair discuss the forthcoming season 2 and their working relationship. It interview also discusses Ortega’s role as a producer on the show, and the public perception of her and the character of Wednesday Addams.
The season 2 announcement was promptly followed up by Netflix themselves.
On the streamer’s Tudum site, Wednesday co-showrunner Al Gough said:
“Television has — and always will be — a team sport. Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners.”
“Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can. We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”
His co- showrunner Miles Millar added:
“We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”
However, he remained understandably tight-lipped on any plot details.
A Wednesday spin-off?
In the aforementioned THR interview with Burton and Ortega, there’s also confirmation that the Wednesday team are exploring a spin-off – which remains top secret one at this time. This was rumoured as far back as December 2023. At the time, we suggested that Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester would be idea to lead such a show, although the series has numerous other candidates too.
