We can see the current Wheel of Time cast thanks to a feature from showrunner Rafe Judkins for Entertainment
Showrunner Rafe Judkins gives a fascinating insight into his take on the forthcoming Amazon Prime series based on the Robert Jordan novels. The Wheel of Time cast includes Rosamund Pike, who is also quoted. The article talks a lot about comparisons with Game of Thrones, mythic sagas in general as well as the new show in particular. The articles is on the Entertainment site — we have the odd quote, but really you should check out the source for more details.
What is Wheel of Time?
Robert Jordan’s series of books appeared from 1990. It’s a big fantasy world of magic, swordplay, destiny and much else besides. It’s also a matriarchal society, with a female only mystic order called the Aes Sedai (a slight echo of the Bene Gesserit in Frank Herbert’s Dune series). Enter Rosamund Pike, who plays Moiraine. Men don’t wield magic; if they show talents the Aes Sedai hunts them down. Moiraine is key to the storyline, she rescues a some young villagers after monsters attack their community of Two Rivers.
Pike sums up her role in the story as follows:
“Moiraine is the guide figure in this world, the mysterious stranger who comes to town and changes their lives forever. They leave with her on a journey that will either save or destroy humanity.”
The article has many more images and a lot more on the show. The Wheel of Time is due later this year, and there’s a trailer.
