Prime Video’s revenge thriller Wilderness, starring Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen lands on September 15th.
With just a week to go until Wilderness launches, Prime Video have dropped a full trailer for the show. A psychological thriller, it stars Jenna Coleman as Liv – a wronged wife who plans revenge on her unfaithful husband.
The series is based on the novel by B.E. Jones and Prime Video describes it as a “twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” quickly turn into a living nightmare.”
Here’s the synopsis for Wilderness:
Liv and Will seem to have it all. A rock-solid marriage. A glamorous new life in New York. Until Liv learns about the affair.
Enter the American road trip she’s fantasised about. For Will, it’s a chance to make amends. For Liv, it’s a very different prospect – a landscape where accidents happen all the time.
The perfect place to get revenge.
With Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, the show also stars Ashley Benson and Eric Balfour, with Talia Balsam, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Jonathan Keltz, Claire Rushbrook and Morgana Van Peebles.
Marnie Dickens writes the show, based on B.E. Jones’ novel. The director is So Yong Kim (Lovesong), who also executive produces with Elizabeth Kilgarriff. Wilderness comes from Firebird Pictures. The drama has also bagged a high-profile theme tune, courtesy of Taylor Swift!
Ahead of the launch, both Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen have been speaking about the show, with all quotes gathered ahead of the current SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Jenna Coleman describes the show:
“Wilderness is a very big story. There’s a huge arc. In summary, it’s about a woman who finds out that her husband is cheating on her, and she begins to plot ways and means in which to kill him so she can’t be abandoned…and to seek revenge or justice. But what ensues is a very different chain of events, almost like a roller coaster or an acid trip or a hallucinogenic, mad, trippy, wonky, unexpected journey for a character or any person to go on. It’s like a domino effect that’s uncontrollable and unstoppable and the chain of events ensures another chain of events and so on. It’s very heightened but also grounded in an emotional and truthful experience.”
She also discusses her character:
“Liv Taylor is a woman from Wales. We meet her at a point in her life where she’s experienced some kind of imposter syndrome. She’s a bit unsure of who she is and a bit unsure of herself. Her relationship with Will has some co-dependence, and the boundaries are quite blurred. Through her own insecurities, self-doubt, and lack of self-worth, she puts a lot of herself into Will and her relationship with him. I think she’s been very self-protective in her life until she met Will. I think a lot of it has been about not expecting too much in the world. It’s a self-preservation tactic. She’s very witty and dry and uses humour as a defence weapon.”
Oliver Jackson-Cohen talks about Will:
“Will is a down-the-middle English boarding school type who’s come from a very well-to-do family, but the family unit is quite broken. He moves to New York with his wife Liv to start a new life because he gets this incredible new job where he’s Head of Events at a hotel chain. Will is, you know…he’s a good time, and he takes advantage of the good time that he has.”
He also considers what audiences will enjoy about Wilderness:
“I think audiences are going to love the thrill ride of the whole show. It never takes you where you think it’s going to go. That’s a testament to Marnie [Dickens] and the genius of her writing. But it’s deeply stressful and moving and exciting and funny and also devastating. So, we got it all kids. But I think and hope that people are excited to see where the show goes. Because where we begin and where we end are like two totally different shows. And it’s driven by Liv and the audience experiencing the show through her eyes. And Jenna is phenomenal. So, I’m excited for people to see it.”
Wilderness lands at Prime Video on 15th September, 2023 and has six episodes.
