Heavy metal guitarists are frequently prone to bouts of what has been accurately dubbed as ‘fretboard wankery’ and oddly enough, this unique kind of Fender-bending sometimes finds itself entangled with the world of cult telly.

While Brian May’s Star Fleet Project is a prime example of what can happen when such a crossover goes hideously awry, these renditions of the Doctor Who theme and ‘I Am The Doctor’ (the Eleventh Doctor’s personal anthem, not Jon Pertwee’s novelty single from the 1970s) are examples of six-string wizardry that are laudable rather than lamentable.
