Season 4 was confirmed by BBC One in February.
Speaking to TV Times about the new episodes, Anne Reid commented: “This will be our fourth run and I think that will be enough.”
She explained: “Derek and I said we’d only do two series but people love it … I’m happy to film another but I hate it when programmes go on too long and become a pale imitation of the original.”
The Dinnerladies actress added: “You’ll have to ask [writer Sally Wainwright] how Last Tango will end, but I don’t want anybody dying … I want something life-affirming!”
Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid will next be seen delving in to their family trees in genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One this summer.
