Neil Gaiman has revealed plans to bring Mervyn Peake’s of Gormenghast novels to the big screen for the first time.
Gaiman tweeted yesterday: “Tomorrow we start talking to studios, and will soon find out which of them wants to make Mervyn Peake’s wonderful Gormenghast as a movie.”
Peake’s three Gormenghast novels were originally published between 1946 and 1959. A fourth book, written by Peake’s widow, was published in 2009.
The Gothic fantasy series was previously adapted as a four-episode TV serial for BBC Two in 2000, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Celia Imrie, Ian Richardson, Neve McIntosh, Christopher Lee, Stephen Fry, Martin Clunes and Richard Griffiths.
