Set in the lawless streets of post-war Birmingham on the cusp of the 1920s, the epic gangster drama achieved a consolidated average audience of 2.4 million viewers (9.6%) for Series 1, which concluded on BBC Two last October.

Six new episodes begin filming next month and will air on BBC Two this autumn. New characters and cast will be announced soon.

Written by creator Steven Knight, Series 2 will see the Shelby family “expand their empire while maintaining a stronghold in their Birmingham heartland”.
