Sky1’s ‘Spy’ to return for Series 2 and Christmas ep in 2012

Sky1 have today announced the commission of a second series for comedy Spy, starring Robert Lindsay (My Family) and Darren Boyd (Green Wing).

Ten new half-hour episodes and an hour-long Christmas special will air next year.

Created and written by Simeon Goulden (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Series 1 launched on Sky1 in October and saw hapless single father Tim (Boyd) accidentally recruited into MI5.

Series 2 will follow Tim as a newly qualified agent, continuing to keep his secret from those closest to him as he attempts to win the love of his precocious son Marcus.

Sky1’s Head of Comedy, Lucy Lumsden, commented: “I am delighted by the response to Spy. Finding smart yet accessible pre-watershed comedy for adults and kids to watch together is a vital part of our story on Sky 1 HD. We couldn’t have asked for a better start and are excited by the plans for the next series.”

Executive producer Jimmy Mulville added: “Simeon Goulden has created a wonderfully crazy world populated with memorable characters all played beautifully by a supremely talented cast. We can’t wait to get going on a second series.”
