The new US comedy-drama series based on the hit British movie About a Boy will begin in the UK later this month.
Starring Minnie Driver and directed by Iron Man‘s Jon Favreau, the first episode airs at 9.30pm on Monday 31 March on Sky1.
Fun-loving bachelor Will (David Walton) is the ultimate Peter Pan man. He’s got no ties, no responsibilities, not even a job, raking in the royalties from a novelty song he wrote years ago. Best pal Andy (Al Madrigal) has done the growing up thing, marriage, kids, but sprog-less Will is happily leading a life unanchored and in this first episode he tries to hook up at a single parents support group. Which is great, until the woman he wants to woo arranges a playdate with Will’s very imaginary son and her very real daughter.
Step in precocious youngster Marcus (Benjamin Stockham), who has just moved in nextdoor with his New Age mum Fiona (Minnie Driver). The pair are still finding their feet in San Francisco and, understandably, Fiona is protective of the 11-year-old, perhaps overly so, closely monitoring what he eats and issuing a complete television ban, leading to a mutually beneficial agreement and unlikely friendship between the mollycoddled Marcus and Will: he’ll pretend to be his kid if, in return, he gets to hang out with the thirtysomething slacker and, basically, eat rubbish food and watch rubbish TV.
