It’s unclear whether the creature is a Sea Devil redesign but the official description of The War Between the Land and the Sea states that the series includes Sea Devils. The monster is decidedly more humanoid than Sea Devils previously depicted in Doctor Who. The actress is likely Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The Sea Devils first made an appearance in the 1972 Doctor Who serial The Sea Devils.

Some more photos from the night shoot were shared on social media. It is known that actor Russell Tovey was present along with military vehicles and actors portraying soldiers, including UNIT (Unified Intelligence Taskforce) soldiers.

The cast announced for the five-part series so far are Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, Ruth Madeley, Colin McFarlane, Patrick Baladi, Francesca Corney, Vincent Franklin, Adrian Lukis, and Mei Mac.

The War Between the Land and the Sea, is created by Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Russell T Davies, who has co-written the series with Pete McTighe.

When the Doctor’s not in town, the whole of humanity is in trouble. When the fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.

All five episodes are directed by Dylan Holmes Williams, who filmed the 2024 Doctor Who episodes 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble.

Night shoots will continue at the same location 11 and 12 November. Filming for the series will continue until right before Christmas 2024.
